A collaboration with Funda Community Art School, based in Soweto Johannesburg. The project was an intensive six weeks of working, investigating the Kliptown area, where a large new monument was built in 2005- related to the historical significance of the area. Following our research we built a temporary outdoor exhibition display. The aim of this collaboratively built structure was to create functionality for the public space, which is otherwise not frequented as a destination for residents for the purposes of enjoyment of the community. The structure and design of our collectively built structure would inherently poke fun at, or question the original structure of the Freedom Tower, a central feature on the square. Participation of Kliptown residents and organisations was crucial to the realisation of individual development of works by artists, but also for us to be able to facilitate the four day temporary event, which was publicised to the community.
